How much space do you need?

Normally we need a performance area of 6x3 metres, but have squeezed into spaces smaller in the past. We are a 5 piece band with a keyboard so take up more space than a 4 piece but are used to adapting to each venue, whether it be hotel, country house or intimate club.

How is it best to time things?

The timing of how we work is up to you and we always try to fit in with the event to make it as effective as possible. If there is a buffet being served we would suggest not having a set at the same time as people get distraced by it which can sometimes lead to a lull in the atmosphere.

This is how a typical event (that finishes at 12am) would be timed:

Arrive at 6pm to be set up and sound checked by 7.30pm
Background music 7.30-8.30
First set 8.30-9.30
Background music 9.30-10.30
Second set 10.30-11.30
Background music 11.30-12.00

Can I pick the bands playlist?

You can pick the playlist if you wish but we prefer deciding on a set ourselves as we are very experienced at playing songs that will get the party going what ever the event or diversity of crowd. It is usually better for you to let us know songs that you definitely DO or DO NOT want us to play. Then we can still adapt the set for the crowd if need be.

Where will you travel to?

We can travel anywhere, UK and Internationally

Can I see you play live?

The gigs we do are mainly private events but we do do the odd wedding fair that you could see us at. These events would be advertised on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/theripsband If you havent seen them already there is a live studio performance you can see on our website.

Will you learn our special song?

We will happily learn your first dance but please be aware that some songs arent suitable for a band performance eg songs with the big string/brass sections like Frank Sinatra.

Is the video on your website a true reflection of the band?

The video visually is not a true representation of the band as we dress to the occasion.

How do I book you?

You can book us through the enquiry form on this website or through our agency www.alivenetwork.com. You can also email or call our booking agent, Graham, on 0845 094 3816 or therips@alivenetwork.com

Are you able to DJ in between sets?

We carry a laptop with a large array of songs to all our gigs that we use specifically for DJ'ing, making sure that we keep the dance floor swinging in between our live sets. We are happy to take requests for DJ songs. We may not have some of the more obscure songs so if you are desperate for a song to be played in the DJ set please double check with us before the date so we can download it if we dont have it.

Music playlists between sets comes as standard with every booking, and if you want a more bespoke DJ service, we offer a DJ package upgrade option where one of the band members will man the laptop all night to take requests and make basic announcements. The DJ package upgrade option is offered for free if you confirm your booking with us within 7 days of receiving your official quote.

Can we use your sound system for speeches?

You are welcome to use our PA system for your speeches. However, we don’t use radio mics in our live setup so, should you need them, you will have to hire them in advance.

What equipment do you use?

EV 2 kw PA system with 12" and 15" speakers
Pre Sonus 24 channel mixing desk
x 4 - SM58 mics
x 5 Wharfedale - Pro Moniters

Do you have lights?

Yes we have a full range of lights suitable for any occasion... unless your event is at Wembley stadium ;)

How long do you play for?

We usually do 2 x 1 hour sets though this can be split into 3 x 40 minute sets if it suits your occasion better.

What time do you start and finish?

We usually start our first set at around 8.30, and play our second set in the final hour of the evening, but again we are totally flexible with this. Arrival and finish times are 5pm and midnight as standard with early arrival and late finish fees applicable outside of these timings

How long do you take to set up?

It normally takes us around 1.30 hours to set up. Though the loading in time does affect this for instance if the performance room is along way from the load in door and includes lifts/stairs it can add on time.

Can I provisionally book you?

Unfortunately, we don’t take provisional bookings as our demand is such that we would be turning clients away on popular dates. However, when you make an official enquiry with us, your enquiry will be logged in our system and you will be given first refusal on your date should anybody else enquire for the same date

What if the band split up before my event?

Like many professional party bands, our work is our livelihood and so we take our commitments very seriously.
In the very unlikely event that the band had split up before your party, every effort would be made to find a suitable replacement band.

Can my sisters/bosses/daughters dog sing with your band?

If there is someone you want to sing with the band then great, and is often great for the atmosphere of the event. We do prefer it if we are informed before the date of this happening. We dont mind if there is maybe one impromptu guest singer on the night however we do need to be strict with it as being too liberal with the guest singers has the potential to turn into a bit of a shambles... speaking from past experience.

What will the band wear?

Our normal performance attire is smart dress (trousers, shirt and tie) though can dress more casual if you want us in more lively livery.

Does the band have PAT and PLI certificates?

We always carry up to date PAT certification and have Public Liability Insurance cover up to £5M.

Why should I book The Rips?

We have vast experience playing music having performed all around the world at many different types of events. Our equiptment is of the highest level and take pride in producing top quality sound whatever the event/venue. We all know what its like being at a gig where you dont like or even know any of the songs so we take pride in trying our best to play a mixture of music that everyone will like... unless your a fan of jazz.

How much does it cost to book the band?

Prices vary slightly based on the time of year, the location of your event, timings, and any upgrade options, but our standard price starts at £1292 including VAT.

Can we see some previous client testimonials?

We have plenty of testimonials that you can look at, please take a look here

Do The Rips have any specific requirements?

All we ask that that we have somewhere to change, a meal and soft drinks.

What type/size venues are you able to play at?

We are able to play at anysize/type venue as if there is a potential gig that our sound system is suitable for we can hire one that is suitable, though in most cases this wont be necessary.

How loud will the band be?

We understand what its like to be at an occasion where you want to talk to a friend you havent spoken to in ages but cant hear them speak so we will do our best to adjust our sound level accordingly to every event.

Some venues can be quite strict when it comes to the sound level so please check with the venue if they have a DB (decibel) limiter. If they do, get the DB limit and check with the booking agent, as we are a Rock/Pop band there is a limit to how far we can turn our sound down.

What is the band power requirement?

We usually request 2 double 13 amp supplies near to the stage area. As a rule, we draw approximately 16 amps with everything on and have only ever experienced any issues in events in marquees where the generator capacity has been too low.
